We invite secondary 4 to 5 students to participate in our face-to-face enrichment event “Discovering Science at HKUST 2025” on 22 Apr 2025.

This event aims to strengthen secondary school students\’ concepts in science through undergraduate level lectures, Inspiring Science talks, Science Busking shows and guided laboratory tours. Besides, students could also gain insight regarding the admissions requirement and university life at the HKUST through admissions talk, student sharing and campus activities. Secondary 4 to 5 students (or equivalent academic levels) are welcome to join us.

Event Content

Science Lecture

Students will attend an undergraduate-level lecture from one of the following science disciplines.

• Chemistry
• Life Science
• Mathematics
• Ocean Science
• Physics

Laboratory visit

The School of Science houses various state-of-the-art research and teaching facilities. Through the guided tours and demonstrations, students will have a glimpse of our teaching environment and resources, which are indispensable to scientific training and career development.

Inspiring Science Talk

Our faculty members are actively involved in world-class scientific research. They will share their research findings with participants to reinforce the importance of science application in our everyday life.

Science Busking

A group of undergraduate students from the Science Busking team will conduct interactive demonstrations and experiments to explain the science behind daily phenomena.

Admissions talk and student sharing

We will introduce the latest admissions requirements and program information. Our current students will also share their learning experience at the HKUST.

“Science is Everywhere”
Our student ambassadors will guide participants to explore the famous landscape and fascinating scenery at our campus. In addition, participants will take part in group activities at each checkpoint.

The selection of applicants will be based in part on a short personal statement regarding their motivation to participate in the event. The statement should be under 100 words in English.

The registration should be completed by 12 Feb 2025. A confirmation email will be sent to successful applicants by 28 Feb 2025.

Recognition of Participation

In recognition of their participation, OEA bonus points will be awarded to S.5 students (for 2026 intake) and S.4 students (for 2027 intake), if participants complete the whole event, and keep one or more of the following programs as their JUPAS Band A choices:

•       Science (Group A) with an Extended Major in Artificial Intelligence Program (JS5181)

•       Science (Group B) Program (JS5103)

•       International Research Enrichment Program (JS5101)
